Clickety Click Energy 6

Happy Birthday Click Energy 6!   Click Energy 6 is born…

British Gas, it seems, has played a final trump card in the battle of the energy giants. And it’s a move I’m not best pleased about.

No sooner had my household switched to Click Energy 5, when the supplier raises its rates and introduces Click Energy 6.

The new Click Energy 6 tariff, while still being the cheapest online tariff, is more expensive than Click Energy 5’s original price. Click Energy 5 was previously priced at around £845 a year for the average household, but the move from British Gas will now see Click Energy 5 customers’ (like me) bills increase to around £1,150.

And the price of new online energy tariff Click Energy 6 is only marginally cheaper, at £1,057 a year for the average household dual fuel bill.

Click Energy 5 is no longer available to new customers, and any existing customers on the tariff will see their bills rise by an average of £305 a year.

British Gas are now, let’s be honest, not my favourite supplier in the world. My housemates and I will now have to wait until the switch from npower to British Gas is complete, and then switch again from Click Energy 5 to Click Energy 6, which could take another six weeks.

During that time we’ll be being charged the higher Click Energy 5 rate, and there’s nothing we can do about it…

Or is there?

    Hi
Once you have completed your change to British Gas you can swap to click energy 6 instantly by logging into your account and applying to change - you will get immediate notification that your account has been changed to click 6 from click 5 - but here is a tip - click 6 gas is more expensive than the increased click 5 price, but the click 6 electricity price is cheaper than the increased click 5 price! So you might want to do what I have done and that is once your change to British Gas is complete, log into your account and apply to transfer your electricity account only to Click 6 from Click 5 - leave your gas account on click 5. You will save about £100/year in total -the average bill being £1050 - its still the best deal on the market - hope this helps!
    cheers
    Col

    Hey Col,

Thanks for the useful tip, this is really good to know! I’m going to do exactly what you’ve suggested, as soon as the npower switch back to British Gas has happened at the start of November. I’ll let you know how I get on

    Click Energy 6
Now we can do great savings on Dual fuel. Customers can save up to £200 a year with the new “Click Energy 6″. The “Click Energy 6″ option is a great online way to manage your fuel. as well as the savings, there is no cancellation fee, it is available for new and existing customers and could save £75 a year by paying via direct debit. Customers will have the option of fixing their energy prices for 3 years or choosing the “Click Energy 6″ option . it is really good time to save money.

I am currently transferring from nPower to British Gas - and it is taking an absolute age. I managed to get onto “Click 5″ at the old price before they introduced Click 6, and then subsequently increased the price of Click 5.

I got a begging letter from nPower yesterday as ths switch over is next week - too late for me to switch back, so was unsure why they sent the letter. Interestingly, the nPower person was limited with the truth - saying that Click 5 had gone up by 40-odd %….what he FAILED to tell me was what part of the tariff had gone up! I then rang British Gas and got a better response as to the exact picture.

I asked the exact question above relating to segregating the dual-fuel account if (say) electricity was a better deal on Click 6. He advised me against it (he would I guess!) but in pushing he informed me that I could do just about anything on my tariff through the website.

Let’s wait and see if I have ended up on Click 5 or Click 6 - either way, I am still saving myself over £300 from the old nPower tariff, and to be honest, I have no real issues about leaving nPower as there customer service has been awful.

    Iain.

This is a similar situation to my household Iain. We have recieved our final bill from npower now (which amounted to all of £3.87!) so just waiting for the switch to BG now!
