Bridesmaid Revisited
Friday 4th July, 2008 - £8,850.98 in debt…
I’ll tell you what I hate about being in debt. Yesterday, a good friend asked me to be her bridesmaid, and my first thought wasn’t “Wow, I’m so honoured she asked me - I hope I do a good job of it”, but ”Can I afford this?”
As I think I’ve mentioned before, I am scum.
The bride-to-be lives in Nottingham which, according to the RAC route planner, is a good 500-mile round trip. A few of those over the next nine months, plus the wear and tear on my poor little car, plus any accessories I have to buy for the big day, plus organising the hen night… I feel like I’m losing money just thinking about it.
I said yes, obviously. It’s not every day someone offers to buy you an incredible floor-length dress, hopefully in purple.
Oh, and I am honoured to be asked, of course. It’s just hard to concentrate on looking forward to it when you’re counting the pennies…
I myself have been a bridesmaid and there are ways of saving pennies along the way! I figure you are not affraid of the internet and are accustomed to finding good deals. If it is down to you to plan the hen party look up some reviews of various restaurants and check out the menus and the average cost per head! It may be a while away but you could avoid a costly night out by finding a great place to eat that doesn’t cost the earth!
ps
We opted for a comedy night at one of the Jongleurs chains. We had a great night and it was great value (cost depends on whether it’s a friday or saturday). Several comedians (ok you run the risk of getting duf ones but jongleurs is pretty well known and sometimes get famous people!) and there’s a meal deal and often drink offers. The venue we were at changed into a club and we stayed there till the early hours! Cheesy disco music! What more could a girl want! Also if you tell them you’re a hen party, they decorate your table for you!
Thanks - Jongleurs sounds like a brilliant idea, and there’s one in Nottingham!
Unfortunately, she’s now dropping hints about a whole hen weekend, possibly doing something crazy like bellydancing or swinging from trees… But a comedy club would be great for the evening. Excellent plan.
